Preparing for a trip.

Friday, October 09, 2015

I like the planning process of a trip as much as I like travelling. And, I'm travelling to Korea soon! I'm really excited about this Korea trip because I have been planning for this trip for a really long time. I even learned some simple Korean in able to converse with Koreans (I only know some basic Korean though xD) since this is a self-planned trip. I'm quite an organised person so I like to plan my trip and book my flight about few months in advance. So today I'll be sharing with you some of the tips to plan for a trip!

1. The best time to visit.
Before you book your flight, you should know when is the best time to visit the country. You should consider the weather and season as well. I'm going to Korea in mid-October to see the autumn foliage. This is the time when the leaves change colours so this is the best time to visit Korea if you want to see beautiful red autumn leaves. You should choose the dates and places you want to visit carefully to avoid disappointment. Besides, you can visit some travel agencies to find out more about the country you wish to visit.

2. Book your flight.
Flight tickets are cheaper when booked further in advance. You should always compare your options before booking your flight to ensure that you don't miss a cheap rate. You should take the time of flight into account too when choosing flights.

3. Plan your itinerary.
It's important to plan your itinerary ahead to make things as effortless as possible. You need to be realistic when it comes to planning a trip. Planning is the thrilling first step of a trip, but remember to leave some time unplanned just in case some activities take longer than expected. Make a list of places you want to go, things you want to do and foods you want to eat. Do some research on the famous places to visit and you should take people's review into consideration.

4. Learn the language.
You don't need to be fluent because you don't have to be able to discuss philosophy in a foreign language. You just have to understand some phrases and words because this helps a lot when you're travelling. Learning a foreign language helps you to learn more about the culture too. So here are some of the Korean words and phrases that I think will be useful for those who are visiting Korea:
  • 안녕하세요 (an nyeong ha se yo) : Hello
  • 감사합니다 (kam sa hap ni da) : Thank you
  • 실례합니다 (sil lye hap ni da) : Excuse me
  • 백화점 (baek hwa jeom) : Department store
  • 슈퍼마켓 (syu peo ma ket) : Supermarket
  • 시장 (si jang) : Market
  • 얼마예요? (eol ma ye yo) : How much is it?
  • 너무 비싸요 (neo mu bi ssa yo) : It's too expensive.
  • 좀 깎아 주세요 (jom kka kka ju se yo) : Please give me a discount.
  • ... 어디에요? (... eo di e yo) : Where is ...?
  • ... 으로가주세요 (... eu ro ka ju se yo ) : Please bring me to ...
  • 네 (ne) : Yes
  • 아니요 (a ni yo) : No
  • 도와주세요! (do wa ju se yo) : Help!
  • 버스 (beo seu) : Bus
  • 지하철 (ji ha cheol) : Subway
  • 저희 사진 좀 찍어 주세요 (jeo hui sa jin jom jji keo ju se yo) : Please take a picture of us.
  • 천천히 말씀해 주세요 (cheon cheon hi mal sseum hae ju se yo) : Please speak slowly.
5. Packing your luggage and carry-on.
When we're travelling, it's so easy to under pack or over pack or forget to bring something. So, you should make a packing list at least 2 weeks in advance because as the days go by, you will think of many more things to add to your list. Rolling your clothes helps to save tons of space and keeps your clothes wrinkle free. You should have at least an outfit and a few undergarments in your carry-on just in case anything were to happen to your checked luggage. Keep a pair of socks in your carry-on to keep your feet warm during the flight. Make sure the containers with liquids or gels in your carry-on are all under 100ml. You should never ever keep your valuables in your checked luggage just in case your luggage gets lost. I know girls have many pairs of shoes but you should limit yourself to bring only two pairs of shoes. Because shoes take up quite a lot of space, so bring a practical pair like sport shoes and a dressier pair.

I hope these tips help and I'll be back after my trip! So, see you soon and happy travelling! :)
